What is a Velux Loft Conversion?

A Velux Conversion is a type of Loft Conversion where the roofline is un altered. Velux windows are used and allow natural sunlight to shine through the new area.We will only use official Velux Windows as they are the leading manufactures and they will also provide their own guarantee on the product.

Benefits of a Velux Conversion

A Velux Conversion is the most non intrusive, cheapest and easiest way to create additional space. Velux conversions work at their best when there is a good amount of height between the loft floor and the existing ridge. In comparison to other Loft conversions i.e. Dormer Conversions, Velux Loft conversions require much less building work and is therefor not as disruptive.

Exterior finish options

As the external roof line is un-altered there are no finishes to consider. The only visual change to the roof would be the fact that the roof now has Velux Windows. These can be tiled/slated in, using your existing tiles/slates, so that the Velux Windows look like they have always been there.

Will you need planning permission?

f your property has Permitted Development Rights, as long as you adhere to the councils guidelines, a Velux Conversion can be built under a Certificate Of Lawfulness. A Certificate Of Lawfulness means as long as you build within the guidelines you do not need to wait for the application to be approved before work commences.

If you do not have Permitted Development Rights you will need to obtain Planning Permission. With Planning Permission you can not start work until Planning Permission has been granted. Once a Planning Application is valid with the council they should issue a decision after 8 weeks.

Here at The Loft Room we will ascertain exactly which permission is needed and we will submit the applications to obtain the correct approval on your behalf.
